Crossing Over: The Stories Behind the Stories by John Edwards is a book about how he became successful. It starts off talking about how when he was a little kid he never realized that the strange feelings a presence of non-existing people telling him what do was something out of the norm. He graduated from college as a doctor and started off being a medium as something on the side for fun. He would take people in and he was able to sense spirits of family members of the customer and pass on messages from beyond the grave. When asked to explain what he does he replies “O what do I do? I talk to dead people all day” (Edwards 6). Soon he quit his job at the hospital and went on the road promoting his book about the spirits around us every day. He went from town to town doing radio shows and TV shows promoting his book listing to his spirit guides and how they lead him to success, and made him able to speak with spirits of others.

I feel that the story behind the book was very well written. Its incredible how he went from being a doctor to dropping it and going off to be a medium. How he believed in something that no one else could and became one of the most famous mediums for it. It’s incredible to hear how many people he connected with in the story. He was even so good he got his own show were he would connect with others.

Even though the book was well written I have a hard time believing that what he says is 100% true. I believe that what he was hearing were sometimes his thoughts and conscious more than spirit guides. I feel he is just one of the luckier psychics where everything just fell in place for him. I don’t feel he truly has the ability to speak to others. He may believe what hears and think are others but I seriously doubt it is all real.

In “Are Ghosts Real” by Wells, they explain ghosts not as human souls but as demons or angels. They claim that it states in the bible that a human’s soul has only two options, heaven or hell. There is no in between like a ghost. What about the weird noises and paranormal activities? They say that what we see are not ghosts but actually demons. They say that demons have the ability to be seen by us. They have been here since the beginning of time and know everything about all humans so pretending to be a past person is not a great achievement. Why would they do that? To make a person believe that heaven and hell are not real and that the bible is full of lies.

I believe that the article above is telling the truth. I do feel that what we see aren’t necessarily ghosts. I believe what we experience is something of a greater importance than just one lost soul. I believe what we experience are demons sent from hell to corrupt and confuse us. If they could make us question our beliefs then they are doing there job.

Hollywood Ghost Stories

Ghosts Stories is an old show about Hollywood hauntings. They talk about old actors who used to play evil people or monsters, roam the around today haunting the place the loved the most or had there greatest low. It explains the mysteries of famous hotels and the Hollywood strip where ghost sightings have been reported. How the actors cant let there past go. It talks about how you can see them today in there acting outfits or with there instruments.

I think this is an example of how Hollywood is trying to make a quick dollar off ghosts. If there were really ghosts where they claim, there would be an ample of evidence saying they were there, not just one or two eye witnesses. I don’t believe one word this show says

In the article Are Ghosts Real by Rahul Thadani, he explains how our concept of ghosts has changed throughout the years. He talks about ghosts that we think of today are more of a Hollywood theme. How they are perceived as demons or evil beings that haunt and destroy. That is not what ghosts truly are. How today the closest thing we can get to ghosts are some vague pictures and stories. And even today with all the technology and abilities to make things appear, you never know if that is real or a clever Photoshop. Thadani states, “To differentiate the real from the fake becomes much harder when you consider the amazing features of these advanced softwares.” How we have evolved ghosts from being good and bad spirits that are hear to guide us to horrible creatures that haunt is.

I agree with Thadani. Today you can’t be sure to tell the truth from fiction. It’s too easy today to make fakes. How do you know to tell the truth from the fakes? Our perceptions of ghosts have changed. With Hollywood backing up there idea of ghosts to sell tickets, out view is all messed up. So trying to find the truth is almost impossible.

Ghost Hunters International

In Ghost Hunters International the crew members on the show flew to Chillingham Castle in England. The Castle is supposed to be the most haunted one in all of England. The crew went in and got the background of the castle. The castle was home to multiple murders and deaths. People’s bones and bodies have been claimed to be seen all around in hidden places in the castle. The crew went in and set up multiple high tech equipment. They spent the night there and claimed “we have a mountain of evidence that ghosts are here.” The went back and reviewed all the evidence and the most solid they had were three sound recordings and one video. The sound recordings sound like names and the video was of a floating orb going from one end to the room to the other.

I felt the show was a load of crap. The castle itself had a nice history to it and it made a great place for a haunting to be. The evidence how every was very bad. The sound recordings were hardly able to be heard and it just sounded like a random noise, not a name like they thought. It seemed like they were desperate to make anything they saw or heard a ghost. The video of the orb they claimed looked like a little white dot floating across the screen. It was hardly able to be anything. I feel the whole thing was a desperate group of people making a show for other desperates.

non believers

In Are Ghosts Real by Michael Anissimov, he talks about why ghosts don’t exist. He asks a lot of unanswerable questions about are ghosts real or not like “Why, despite the existence of millions of video cameras for at least a couple decades, has no one ever captured a convincing video of poltergeist activity? Why is all the evidence for ghosts purely anecdotal?” (Anissmov). Many scientists have stated that what we believe to be ghosts could be many of multiple logical cases as in sleep paralysis and infrasound which could make u believe a ghost is touching you or controlling you.

Anissimov makes a lot of good points. It is curious as to why there hasn’t been and solid photography about ghosts. I feel that to some degree he is right but I also feel that he is partially wrong. How do we know that we would be able to even capture clear pictures of ghosts on film or in pictures? Maybe there is something we don’t know about that is stopping them being seen. When he refers to the scientists work I also agree to some degree that they are right but again I also feel that there may be ghosts or spirits acting upon too. There is no proof that every weird feeling we get is a ghost or an infrasound. How do we know what is what? How can we prove what people truly feel or experience?

biblical stand

In the online article truthaboutdeath.com, it explains the biblical stand on whether or not ghosts exist. It claims that ghosts aren’t actually what we believe them to be. They claim that what we believe to be ghosts are actually demons from hell that haunt us. The biggest example would be “the mysterious rappings with which modern spiritualism began, late in the 19th century, was not the result of human trickery or cunning, but was the direct work of evil angels, who thus introduced one of the most successful of soul-destroying delusions.” Ghosts aren’t a spirit or lingering soul in a certain place with unfinished business. They are sent from hell to corrupt us.

The article does make good points about ghosts being evil spirits. There have been many reports of people claiming to be possessed throughout history. You also never hear about any good ghosts. All ghosts you hear about are evil and haunting so who is to say that they aren’t demons and that the scripture from the bible is real. There is no proof claiming what they say is wrong but there is no proof claiming its correct also. With the incident with the rappings is quiet a stretch about demons. I don’t think it was necessarily a ghosts or a demon, just an excuse when they had no one else to blame.
